Stick and Carrot
The work encompasses the sound of church bells on Sunday service at the Archcathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul in Poznań and a horse whip. To hear the church bells, a viewer needs to make a physical movement, bend to the floor, picking up a tool which is usually used to subjugate animals. Thus, the viewer simultaneously metaphorically becomes an accomplice to the violence and can hear the blessed ringing of the bells of the basilica where the duke of Poland Mieszko I was baptized, which became an important milestone in the Christianization of Poland.
